Ok, so you got pierced! What’s next?
Over the next month or two, your piercing is going to intermittently swell while it is going through the inflammatory stage of wound healing.
We STRONGLY recommend coming in for a 3-4 week check-up for oral piercings and a 4 week check-up for all other piercings. This 1 month check up allows us to see how your piercing is healing, and usually by this time—the swelling has subsided and it is ready for a shorter post—a process which we call “down-sizing.” Some piercings can require multiple downsizes during the healing process!
Once the swelling has subsided from your piercing, the jewelry will be too long. When the jewelry is too long, it can move around more freely which can create irritation, increase the risk of snagging, and increase the risks of your piercing migrating from its original placement which can result in the piercing rejecting and failing in some cases. We don’t want that to happen!
Down-sizing is crucial to the wellbeing of your piercing and will allow your piercing to continue to heal well. This service does cost a small fee.
UP-SIZING
Ok, so you got pierced---and uh oh…you swelled a LOT and your piercing feels very tight, painful, and like you need a longer piece of jewelry. This is an urgent situation! Please do not wait it out or else your piercing can continue to swell and potentially result in embedded jewelry. Please come see us ASAP and we will always install a longer piece of jewelry into your piercing for free during the healing period.
